Elevator working again

Elevator working again

The elevator at the Namara seniors home in Inverness had been out of service since May 15, keeping those with mobility issues literally trapped on the upper floor. On Saturday, the elevator was finally fixed.

“I can confirm that the elevator at the Namara building is now operational,” Elizabeth MacDonald, communications adviser for the Department of Community Services, said in an email. “The service provider and elevator manufacturer are continuing to work on the software which must be configured to be compatible with the Namara elevator. In the meantime, the service provider utilized the required software from another building that was not using its elevator.”

According to MacDonald, problems arose because the parts required to repair the elevator were proprietary and had to be provided by the company who manufactured and installed the elevator. The service contract for maintaining the elevator is now with a different company. The housing authority’s elevator maintenance contractor was unable to get the required parts from the equipment manufacturer.

“Officials at the Department of Community Services intervened and contacted senior executives at both elevator companies to ensure that they know that we expect them to work together to resolve this issue, and that we expect them to stand by their product and service contract, especially when seniors are dependent upon that product and service contract.”
